Beyond The Dome: The Remixes
A 8 track crossover jazz album (29m 58s) — released July 19th 2024 on Jazz re:freshed
Jazz re:freshed is proud to present eight dope remixes of Marcus Joseph's'Beyond The Dome' by a selection of innovative producers. The original album is a deeply introspective and expansive project that delves into the themes of personal and external limitations. It's an exploration of what binds us to our identities and locations, and how we can transcend perceived obstacles to become our true selves. 'Beyond the Dome: The Remixes'reimagines these compositions, offering fresh perspectives from some of Joseph's favourite producers who have taken on the task of remixing each track.
At the time of conception, Joseph was immersed in live performances and shows, which inspired him to infuse the album with a renewed dynamic energy. The entire recording process for the remix album was conducted remotely, by sharing the stems via email to the respective producers, who then worked their magic.
Featuring a stellar lineup of producers who infused their unique styles to the remixes. NikNak, a long time friend and collaborator, was the perfect choice to remix "Challenge Day," specialising in turntablism, she highlighted the track's dancefloor sensibilities. Fellow Leicester native Scot Xylo, a music creator that made a deep impact on Joseph, remixed "Morning Affirmation," a reflexive track encouraging positive actions, such as expressing gratitude and setting affirmations for the day; vocals were added from Udo and Tnah, which beautifully captured the essence of the song and breathed new life into it. "Puzzle Paradigm" was reworked directly from the vinyl format of the original album by legend in the UK Jazz and Hip-Hop scene, David Lyttle. Jazz FM stalwart Simon Phillips delivers a unique ode to track "What If" exploring the theme of limitless potential and self-discovery. Remix competition winner Saul O'Grady offers a heartwarming reinterpretation of "Old Flame", dedicated to Joseph's wife. The title track "Beyond The Dome" was reimagined by Ben Nobuto, a talented pianist, composer, and producer, where his artistry and mastery of composition shone through. Plus supremely talented musician Wonky Logic 's stellar contribution on"Arrival of The Giants".
An exclusive bonus track by Yumna Black's remix of 'Arrival of the Giants' transforms the original into a deep house masterpiece. A DJ and producer from Leicester, Yumna brings his unique style to the track, creating a dope and danceable rendition that pays tribute to the evolving sounds of our music scene. An outstanding contribution to bring the project full circle.
Musician and spoken word artist Marcus Joseph aspires to be an instrument of change. Whether playing a proud role in his local Leicester community, lending his talents to perform for George Cole - the city's first black mayor - or paying homage to his Afro-Caribbean roots with songs charged with the righteous energy of reggae music, the spirited Alto Saxophonist possesses the gift to uplift.
